Erica Schuller

Erica received her Masters of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Pamela Fry, and holds degrees in Vocal Performance and Music Education from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with Kathryn Cowdrick. Erica currently studies with Dr. Constance Haas. She has been teaching privately since 2002, has also held positions as a choral conductor and church music director, and has given master classes with the Florentine Opera Company in Milwaukee, WI. She currently resides in Chicago, IL.

While specializing in the performance of opera and early music, Erica teaches a wide range of musical styles, including musical theater, jazz, pop and gospel. Erica believes vocalists can sing any genre of music with a healthy vocal technique - one based in coordinated, relaxed sound production. Good singing is universal. By shedding excess manipulation and tension, and allowing the body to move as a coordinated unit, Erica is able to bring out the unique beauty of each student's voice. She also works with students to build confidence, sing independently, and increase musical vocabulary while reducing performance anxiety.

Erica teaches beginning through advanced students, age 8 and older. Younger students will be considered on a case by case basis. With 14 years of piano experience, Erica is also able to accompany all students, so a seperate pianist is not needed for advanced lessons. About Private Lessons

Private vocal instruction offers students an opportunity to explore, learn and grow towards healthy, efficient singing and fulfilling music making. No previous experience necessary - just an inquisitive mind and a willingness to try! Lessons generally begin with a "check in" of the student's experiences during the week. This is followed with vocal exercises, meant to teach and practice important technical aspects of singing. The remainder of the lesson is dedicated to work on repertoire. Students are encouraged to explore a variety of musical genres. All kinds of music are welcome!

Instruction is available through Chicago School of Music.
